New World Group Establishes Green New World Volunteers
Contributing to the Society, Building a Better Environment
New World Development Company Limited ("the Group" or "NWD"; Hong Kong stock code: 17) announced the establishment of the Green New World Volunteers ("the Team") to fulfill its commitment to corporate social responsibility and support the sustainable development of the environment. Driven by the Group Environmental Committee of the Group, the Team is responsible for planning, preparing and implementing various volunteering activities related to environmental protection for all the staff from the Group's subsidiaries and their families and friends. The scope of service covers greening, tree planting, cleanups, promotion of environmental protection and green living, and more.
Yesterday morning, the Team organized its first activity, "Green New World - Fun on the Farm", during which the Team's volunteers led over 40 secondary school students from low-income families in Tuen Mun, Tsing Yi and Sheung Shui to visit the organic farm of Produce Green Foundation in Fanling and learn about the seasonal farm produce. Under the guidance of Produce Green Foundation staff, the volunteers learnt farm practice together with the students during which they were introduced to simple farm tools and field work such as preparing soil, fertilization and seed-sowing in order to understand the brief concept of organic farming. The volunteers also made organic soy milk with the students whom gained a deeper understanding of organic food and were encouraged to live an organic lifestyle with their families.
The participating volunteers believed that the activity successfully conveyed the message of green and organic living further and educated more people on environmental protection. Volunteers Mr Wai Cheuk Fai, Wells and Ms Mok Sau Wan, Muse said, "The activity not only provided a great opportunity for the students from low-income families to get in touch with nature, but also allowed them to experience organic farming and learn about organic food. These helped nurture responsible environmental behaviours among the youngsters, and also allowed us, as volunteers, to have personal reflections on the sustainable development of the environment."
Mr Cheng Chi-Kong, Adrian, Executive Director of New World Group, pointed out, "The mission of Green New World Volunteers is to unite passionate and devoted staff members and their families and friends who love the environment and care about the next generation to participate in green volunteering and contribute to the preservation and improvement of environmental protection together. The setup of the Team once again demonstrated the Group's green implementation and unfailing determination to promote environmental awareness among the public, especially the youngsters." The Group hopes the Team can grow and flourish so that more and more volunteers from its subsidiaries will take action to promote the pressing need of environmental protection and raise the environmental awareness among the public.
