"Road to Green - Striving for a Young New World" social enterprise to organize Sichuan earthquake relief activity

"Road to Green - Striving for a Young New World" social enterprise, jointly organized by New World Development Company Limited ("NWD", Hong Kong stock code: 17) and Tuen Mun Youths Association ("TMYA"), is organizing a clothing donation in Tung Chung on 23 and 24 May,  appealing to the public for the support of the Sichuan earthquake.

The activity aims at collecting the used clothes from the public and recycling them to raise the fund for the earthquake-effected areas. The fund raised will be donated to Sichuan province via the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR.

Mr Adrian Cheng, Executive Director of NWD said, "More than ten of thousands of lives were affected since Sichuan earthquake, and the economy was seriously damaged. I hope that this clothing donation activity organized by "Road to Green - Striving for a Young New World", will provide the youths in this enterprise a valuable opportunity to learn to care about our country and community."

Mr Almon Poon, President of TMYA, said, "This is a very meaningful activity, providing another way for the public to support the relief work by donating used clothes to us, apart from making donation, in order to help the disaster-relief effort in Sichuan."

(Both activities will be held at the same time.)

"Road to Green - Striving for a Young New World" is an enterprise jointly funded by NWD and the Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme under the Home Affairs Department. It aims at providing extensive on-the-job training and job opportunities for young people in need, helping them rebuild confidence in their job prospects and re-integrate into society. The clothing donation activity not only supports the relief work in Sichuan, but also providing a valuable chance for the young people aged 15 to 25, with low working skills and lack of working experience, to concern about their society and support the affected people.

New World Group has been actively supporting the relief work of the Sichuan earthquake through different ways. The group, together with Dr Cheng Kar-Shun, Henry, Managing Director of NWD, on his behalf have donated more than RMB 50 million, and have donated 300 set of wireless communication equipment which are worth RMB15 million to the front-line rescuing team, supporting the disaster-relief effort in the affected areas. In addition, Staff members at Chengdu office of New World China Land Limited ("NWCL", Hong Kong stock code: 917) were ahead for blood donation and volunteered as a union to help the local Government in the reconstruction of the affected area.
