NWFB and Citybus Received "Class of Excellence" Wastewi$e Label in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence for five consecutive years
Upholding the guiding principal of sustainable development, New World First Bus ("NWFB") and Citybus are striving to practice green policy by integrating the core value of environmental protection into the Companies' daily administration and operation. Recently, both Companies were commended in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence ("HKAEE") by garnering the "Class of Excellence" Wastewi$e Label for the fifth consecutive year in recognition of the Companies' outstanding performance in environmental protection by taking successful measures in waste management.
Over the years, NWFB and Citybus are committed to achieving waste minimization through various means, including reduction of waste generation; collection, reuse and recycling of recyclable materials. Since awarded the Wastewi$e Label in 2009, the Companies have achieved 13 ambitious environmental goals which attained the "Class of Excellence" requirements. These include the decrease in consumption of paper, printed matter and disposable battery; collection of scrapped tyre, recycled paper, exhausted toner and ink cartridges and old computer monitor. Among all, the amount of scrapped tyre and paper consumption were reduced by 72% and 63% respectively as compared with five years ago. Further in 2012, NWFB and Citybus had initiated to collect a total of 100kg old staff uniform for charitable and recycling purposes, aiming to avoid solid waste production.
Started in 2008, the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence is jointly organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee, the Environmental Protection Department, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, and eight credible organizations, with the aim of encouraging businesses and organizations to adopt green management, as well as to reduce the amount of waste generated within their establishments or generated through the services and products they provide, and recognize the waste reduction efforts of those companies.
