New World Group Green New World Volunteers Experiencing Organic Farming with People with Intellectual Disabilities

On 7 May 2011, the Green New World Volunteers ("the Team") of New World Development Company Limited ("the Group" or "NWD"; Hong Kong stock code: 17) organized the "Green New World - Hong Chi Farmstead Organic Farming" Volunteering activity. The Team visited the Hong Chi Farmstead ("the Farmstead") which provides training to the young adults with intellectual disabilities ("the trainees") to practise organic farming and gardening skills at the Pinehill Village in Tai Po. Under the guidance of the Farmstead farmers, the volunteers provided farm practice voluntary services together with the trainees after being introduced to field work skills, such as ploughing, weeding, seed-sowing and fertilizing. The volunteers also picked fresh herbs inside the Farmstead and make herbal tea together with the trainees to gain knowledge of herbs and enjoy the fun of collaboration with the trainees.

Apart from manifesting the spirit of helping and loving each other among normal people and intellectual disabled groups, the participating volunteers were also encouraged to promote the benefits of environmental protection and organic living further to the society. Volunteers Lai Chun Ying and Chan Wing Yan agreed that the meaningful visit achieved a lot, "The activity not only provided a great opportunity for us to conduct voluntary services in the Farmstead and enriched our knowledge of ‘no-harm agriculture' and natural herbs, but also inspired us to spread the message of supporting organic living and sustainable development of the environment to our families and friends. Urging them to join the force of environmental protection, more people will contribute to protecting our Earth."

The mission of Green New World Volunteers is to unite passionate and devotedstaff membersand their families and friends who lovethe environment and care about the next generation to participate in green volunteering and contribute to the preservation and improvement of environmental protection together. The Group hopes the Team can encourage more volunteers from its subsidiaries to take actions, promoting the importance of environmental protection and care to different groups in the community in order to raise the environmental awareness and attention to people in need among the public.
