New World Group donates festive food to the needy

New World Development ("NWD" or "The Group"; Hong Kong stock code: 17) is dedicated to fostering a caring community. In celebrating Christmas and Chinese New Year it showed its support of the needy by donating food. The Group recently joined hands with the Food Bank of St James' Settlement to provide food to 400 families experiencing hardship in its "New Year Market" activities. Its subsidiary, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (HML), also contributed by offering surplus food collected from its restaurant to the food recovery programme organised by Food Angel.

400 low-income families from East Kowloon were present at the Market organised by St James' Settlement. They were offered Chinese New Year items and staples such as rice, cooking oil, toothpaste, detergent and much more at an extremely low price. The Group donated unconsumed food from a previous activity including candies, biscuits and bottled water to the needy families. Our volunteers assisted in the sales of the items.

To minimise food waste and show our concern to the poor, HML has been participating in the food recovery programme by Food Angel through donating surplus food from the Congress Restaurant to the needy. Donated food was handled with appropriate care to ensure quality delivery to the needy families through the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and the Salvation Army.
