New World Group and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs signed new agreement for "New World/ Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellows Program"

(25 April 2007, Hong Kong) New World Development Company Limited ("New World Group" or the "Group"; Hong Kong stock code: 0017) and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs ("SAFEA"), PRC signed a new agreement for "New World/ Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellows Program" ("the program"), supporting the talent training in Mainland China. 

The signing ceremony was held at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel, Hong Kong on 19 April 2007. Mr Ji Yun-shi, General Director of SAFEA and Dr Henry Cheng, Managing Director of New World Group co-signed the three-year agreement of " New World/ Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellows Program " (2007-2009) with Mr Peng Qing Hua, Deputy Director (Vice Minister) of the Liaison Office of The Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. and representatives from SAFEA, China Association for International Exchange of Personnel, Beijing Hong Kong Exchange of Personnel Centre Limited, New World Group witnessing the signing ceremony. 

Mr Ji Yun-shi said, "Nowadays, our country is having more frequent interchange with the rest of the world than before. As such, the government officials should be of higher quality. Not only should they be equipped with knowledge of the industry, department and the country they work for, they are also required to be familiar with the international development. Therefore, talent training has become an important project for the country. "New World/ Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellows Program" helps to enrich the knowledge and enhance the international perspective of senior government officials in Mainland China. It also promotes the understanding and trust between China and other countries. Since its launch in 1998, the program has achieved satisfactory results. We are glad to have such utmost support from New World Group to the program." 

Dr Henry Cheng was delighted that the Group can join the program, "Committed to Hong Kong and dedicated to China, New World Group concerns about the development of both Hong Kong and the Mainland China. In fact, the nurture of talent should be given a high priority upon the country's rapid development. New World Group always takes talent training seriously. We fully understand that it is necessary for the country to connect with the world for her advancement. Our outstanding government officials should build a network with their international counterparts through exchange and communication and learn from others' success and experience. We are proud to be able to contribute to the country's talent training." 

For years, New World Group has been dedicated to the development of talents in Mainland China. The Group signed an agreement with SAFEA and John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University ("Kennedy School") in 1998, starting the "New World/ Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellows Program". Each year, 12 to 15 outstanding senior government officials are sent to Kennedy School for a fellows program of four months and an executive program of three to six weeks. Up to now, around 120 bright officials have benefited from this professional training program with international standard.
