New World Green Week 2011 Kickoff Ceremony

Promoting Green Spirit and Eco Culture
 

The New World Green Week held by New World Development Company Limited ("NWD" or "the Group", Hong Kong stock code: 17) had its kickoff ceremony today. The Second New World Green Week, with its theme "Scuppies Spirit", promotes green living among the public and staff of the Group. Through various green activities, the Group hopes to promote Scuppies Spirit to people, emphasizing that we all should put environmental protection as an important issue in our living.

The kickoff ceremony was held at K11 Art Mall, with Mr Benny Wong, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection, HKSAR Government, Mr Gary Chen, General Manager of New World Development Company Limited and Mr Kelvin Chan, Assistant General Manager, Operation of K11 Concepts Limited. The kickoff ceremony was a carbon neutral event with certificate issued by Carbon Care Asia. Carbon emissions incurred in the event was offset through our support to the Northwest Sichuan Afforestation and Reforestation Project.

Mr Gary Chen stressed in his remarks that promoting environmental protection is the long-term sustainable direction of the Group, "New World Group has been actively promoting environmental protection. The establishment of the Group Environmental Committee leads the Group in formulating various green policies and it is actively promoting green management within the Group. A variety of staff activities were held to raise the cognition of the staff on environmental protection and guide them to further implement the green concept in their daily lives. It is the mission of the Group to build a comfortable green home for the citizens. The Group hopes to contribute to protecting the environment to build a Green New World and a better home for our next generation."

Mr Benny Wong said, "We believe that our environment will become better if Hong Kong people follow the Scuppies Spirit. The HKSAR Government is in a leading position to implement environmental protection, but we also need the active involvement of all citizens. All of us can protect the environment, save energy and minimize greenhouse gas emission by paying attention to every tiny detail in our daily lives. We hope that every one of you could participate in this and share the effort to protect our environment."

To echo the Second New World Green Week, we have been organizing a series of activities from May. K11 is also actively implementing a number of activities including food waste recycling and installation of electric vehicle chargers. In the future, K11 will continue to promote the core values Art‧People‧Nature.With the synergy of art and green, we are confident to bring a brand new experience to all walks of lives", said Mr Kelvin Chan in his speech. 

As one of the flagship programmes of the New World Green Week, "Make it Green! Product Design Competition" is having its award presenting ceremony in the same occasion. Judges of the competition, Mr Jason Cheng, Representative from Board of Director of Greeners Action, and Professor Siu King Chung, Assistant Professor of School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, were invited to present the awards to winners."Make it Green! Product Design Competition", co-organized by the Group and Greeners Action, aims at encouraging participants to bring their creative talents into full play and design green products to change peoples' wasteful habits in daily life. About 200 submissions were received with astonishing ideas of the green advocates who are bold to execute their boundless creativity. Winning products will be displayed at K11 Art Mall from today until 10 June. The Group hopes the public to share its faith that everyone can help reduce over-consumption on natural resources and contribute to the Earth.

The opening of another flagship activity "K11 People Power 2011 - "There's No Place Like Home" Recycling Paper Creation Scheme" was held concurrently. Co-operating with Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, K11 invites youngsters create art pieces using waste paper. They are encouraged to explore the meaning of environmental protection with creative inspiration and express the concept of green living. Led by local artists, students have created a series of artworks with the theme of "Home". Their works are exhibited at K11 Art Mall from now to 30 June.

Other interesting public activities of the New World Green Week include but not limited to Green New World Facebook GNW Studio Eco-Photo Contest, "Love Reading‧Green Living" and "3R on Food Waste" Environmental Talk at Discovery Park Shopping Centre. The Group hopes to deliver green messages widely and encourage people to support environmental protection through different aspects.
