New World Development Company Limited (the “Group”; Hong Kong Stock Code: 00017) has launched new management trainee programmes - “Artisans Blast” and “Artisans GO!” to showcase the Group’s new brand personality called The Artisanal Movement. These programmes encourage candidates to breakthrough conventional ways of thinking and start a journey of boundless imagination.
Artisans Blast is a path that parallels the mainstream recruitment process, which eliminates a written test and panel interview. Instead, potential candidates need only submit a piece of artisanal work, including photos, a documentary, a poem, etc. onto the "New World Talent" Facebook Page. This programme encourages greater diversity in how to interpret “Artisans”.
After receiving more than 400 artisanal works, the Group’s management selected 10 candidates who were then invited to experience a free stay at Eight Kwai Fong, the Group’s serviced apartment in Happy Valley. Each candidate then received a comprehensive introductory tour around the Eight Kwai Fong premesis by the Elite Services Team to learn more about the various art pieces there and gain a better understanding about the overall concept of the property via the artisanal tour. A coffee art latte workshop was also arranged for the candidates, allowing then to experience a taste of what it is like to be an artisan. The 10 candidates were divided into 2 groups and went off to explore the area around Happy Valley, which helped them discover new ways to craft an artisanal living experience. Later the group of candidates had to present their ideas to the Board with successful individuals going straight to final interview. The Group aims to recruit more artisans who share the same beliefs and wish get higher achievements. The feedback from the candidates was very positive, and all found this new recruitment channel innovative and interesting. Ultimately they thought that the New World Group highly valued the MTs and spent a great deal of time and resources recruiting the right talents.
“Artisans GO!” required candidates to be creative and think like an entrepreneur. They were asked to develop a new business project as a start-up company and to pitch K11 in order to negotiate a win-win business model. The Group seeks potential talent from those who are creative and capable of operating as an entrepreneur. More than just being outstanding employees, the management trainees have to be sensitive to the market, aggressive in exploring new opportunities, and be knowledgeable about how to assess the value of businesses like an outsider.
The New World Management Trainee programme is a 2-year intensive and comprehensive scheme to initiate new hires to the Group. Each trainee is provided with plenty of learning opportunities to gain comprehensive and diversified business exposure. Familiarisation activities such as opening ceremonies, orientation day and site visits to various Group companies and business units help MTs acquire clear overview of The Group's mission, core values as well as its diversified business operations.
