New World China Land Limited ("NWCL" or "the Group", Hong Kong stock code: 917) has been awarded for two consecutive years the accolade of "2008 Best Corporate Citizen". NWCL's dedication in community development and services has thrust the Group to the top spot from a fiercely competing crowd of 500 other companies. NWCL is the only Hong Kong company among the 20 local and multi-national corporation winners, and is the only company engaging in real estate business.
The panel of judges has expressed their high regards on NWCL's multi-facet programmes and all out effort in its execution of corporate social responsibility ("CSR") initiatives. These include the Group's long term effort in providing low income mass housing during the 90s, forging a long term working alliance with UNICEF with focus on child education in western provinces, setting up of national corporate volunteer teams to engage in local community services, and promotion of Green Office campaign in its own offices across the country.
The Group Executive Director, Mr Adrian Cheng Chi-Kong has expressed his gratitude of the Group being honored for the second time, "This accolade is both recognition and a driving force for us to do more and better in our CSR drive. Being a good corporate citizen has always been one of our pillar core values and a strong tradition of the New World Group. Our corporate vision of "New Living" will continue to lead us to more engaging, meaningful and rewarding community actions in the future."
The annual "China Best Corporate Citizen" event is organized by one of Mainland China's most influential financial media "21st Century Economic Herald" and "21st Century Business Review". The event has been revered by the government, business community, academics and general public as it has been the first CSR award being organized since 2004. This year, the award ceremony was held in Peking University and attended by luminaries such as Mr Wang Guang-Tao, Chairman of Committee of Environmental Protection and Natural Resource Conservation of NPC, Mr Xu Zhi-Hong, Principal of Peking University, and Mr Mao Yu-Shi, renowned economist.
