NWS Holdings celebrated “Renri” (“人日”) with deprived elderly on NWS Caring Day 2010

To celebrate its seventh anniversary of First Trading Day, NWS Holdings Limited ("NWS Holdings"; Hong Kong stock code: 659) co-organized NWS Caring Day 2010 with St. James' Settlement on "Renri" ("人日"), the  seventh day of Chinese New Year. Over 400 staff members from the  Group's Corporate Office and 17 member companies celebrated birthday together with hundreds of deprived elderly who had no ideas about their birthdays.

The Funeral Navigation Service of St. James' Settlement provides funeral consultation service for deprived elderly, in which some do not know about their birthdays. In view of this, NWS Holdings held the anniversary ceremony on "Renri" at St. James' Settlement. Executive Directors Tsang Yam Pui, Andrew Wong, Patrick Lam, Tommy Cheung and William Doo, Jr. of NWS Holdings, together with the management of member companies, created a huge longevity bun ("壽桃") at the ceremony to symbolize the Group's prosperity and to send birthday wishes to the elderly.

At the ceremony, Tsang Yam Pui, Executive Director and Chairman of Corporate Social Responsibility ("CSR") Committee expressed that CSR was an important part of the Group's corporate culture. The corporate volunteer team, NWS Volunteer Alliance, continues to launch new initiatives stepping into its eighth year. One of the examples is the collaboration with St. James' Settlement to help the elderly affected by Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate being demolished through conducting house improvement works in their new homes. "Thanks for the enthusiasm and contribution from staff members. The Group will continue to pursue CSR and respond social needs proactively."

The Group has prepared traditional "poon choi" ("盆菜") after the ceremony to share happiness with around 120 deprived elderly. Longevity buns and a gift bag which contained hand-knitted scarves made by staff members of NWS Holdings, noodles and fruits were also distributed to the elderly to express the volunteers' heartfelt wishes. Some volunteers picked up the elderly who were on wheelchairs to the venue while some performed Chinese opera and Dragon Dance. On the same day, over 300 volunteers paid visits to some 300 elderly to present them gift bags on this special "Renri".

NWS Holdings has held NWS Caring Day for five consecutive years to celebrate the Group's First Trading Day anniversary through community services instead of a cocktail party, spreading caring message across the community.
