New Youth New World Summer Internship Programme Leads New Youth New Era and New Youth New Vision Summer Internship Programmes to Raise the Competitiveness of University Students in Hong Kong
Thanks to its booming economy, the economic ties between Mainland China and other international commercial centres have been strengthened. For corporations in Hong Kong and Mainland China and overseas investors, recruiting talents who are familiar with the business environment of Mainland China is a must. Internship experience in Mainland China has become a valuable asset for university students in Hong Kong to stand out from the crowd.
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong United Youth Association (“HKUYA”), New World Development Company Limited (“New World Group”) and HKUYA Student Exchange Network (“SEN”), New Youth New World Summer Internship Programme 2014 and the newly added New Youth New Era (held by SEN) and New Youth New Vision Summer Internship Programme, which is held by Hong Kong Volunteers Association (“HKVA”), provide Hong Kong university students with a total of 300 internship positions in government departments and major corporations in Beijing, Shanghai and Dalian, allowing them to understand the culture and working environment of Mainland China, thereby broadening their horizons and enhancing their competitiveness.
Providing the Best Internship Programmes
Over 1,500 Hong Kong university students applied for the 300 internship positions provided by this year’s programmes, a testament to their growing demand for internships in Mainland China. This year’s judging panel includes Adrian Yip, Counsellor-in-Chief of HKUYA, Helen Lu, Chairperson of HKVA, Andy Kwok, President of SEN, and Maria Cheung, General Manager of Corporate Communication of New World Development Company Limited, who evaluated the applicants based on their abilities such as intellectual thinking, communication skills and understanding of Mainland China.

The introduction of the Funding Scheme for Youth Internship in Mainland China by The Commission on Youth is a great chance for youths to broaden their horizons and immerse themselves in the culture of Mainland China. New Youth New Vision Summer Internship Programme will provide participants with the opportunity to work at government bureaus in Beijing, including social service organisations such as Beijing Volunteer Federation and Beijing No.1 Social Welfare House, and administrative organisations under the government, allowing youths from Mainland China and Hong Kong to understand the under-resourced community and the workings of the government.”

The programmes also provide internships for students in renowned state-owned enterprises such as China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Sinochem Group, China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation and China Railway Engineering Corporation. Gaining a Deeper Understanding of the Lifestyle and Culture of Mainland China through a Wide Range of Activities
Apart from working in different corporations, students also get the chance to visit local government departments, renowned corporations and famous scenic spots such as Beijing Office of the Government of the HKSAR, New World Group’s properties in Mainland China, Shanghai World Expo Display Centre and Dalian Commodity Exchange. A series of activities will be arranged, allowing students to exchange their views with local students on various local issues such as history, politics, economics and livelihood, thereby acquiring a better understanding of Mainland China. A series of CEO seminars will also be held, allowing participants to exchange their views with successful professionals, thereby broadening their horizons.
As New Youth New World Summer Internship Programme enters its eighth year, over 1,500 university students have been given the valuable chance to intern at government departments, renowned state-owned enterprises, media organisations and listed Hong Kong enterprises in various cities in Mainland China. This year’s participants will start their six-week internships in mid-June in various workplaces in Beijing, Shanghai and Dalian.
