New World Springboard Looks Forward to Third Anniversary Top Hong Kong Athlete So Wa-wai Encourages Students at Programme Annual Party

The New World Springboard sustainable community programme of New World Development Company Limited (“The Group”; Stock Code: 17.HK) recently held the New World Springboard Annual Party 2014, gathering close to 300 students, parents, mentors and representatives of partnering Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to review past events and look forward to its third anniversary. Distinguished Hong Kong athlete So Wa-wai was present to inspire students with his own story of rising above disability with perseverance.

Commendations to students

About 300 New World Springboard participants and their parents from Tung Chung, Tuen Mun, Tin Shui Wai, Kwai Tsing, Sham Shui Po and Kwun Tong, along with mentors and representatives of partnering NGOs converged on the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to take a look back at some amazing moments of the programme over the past two years. Students who achieved 100% attendance during the year were awarded certificates of merit and enjoyed a dinner buffet with their parents at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Inspirational sharing

So Wa-wai, a multiple gold medallist who holds the world record of men’s 100m and 200m at the Paralympic Games, told his extraordinary story of tenacity on the tracks with the backing of his family, coach, teammates and supporters. He encouraged students to overcome the hurdles and keep going.

Deepened reach with new Parent Club

In addition to developing students, the programme also extends its support to their parents. The New World Springboard Parent Club was established to support parents in nurturing their children through instilling in them positive thinking. Adolescent psychological development training offers members best-practice parenting concepts for holistic development of their children. The annual celebration also had seasoned educator Anna Hung sharing tips on communicating with children and the parents found the seminar very informative.

About New World Springboard

Funded by the New World Group Charity Foundation, the New World Springboard sustainable community programme aims to help the youths develop a positive outlook on life and learn to face challenges with an indomitable spirit. The current phase of the project focuses on swimming and basketball by providing seven years of professional training to under-resourced students aged from seven to 12. The Group has been engaging staff volunteers as mentors in the New World Springboard Mentorship Programme since 2013. To further enhance the programme, “Star Mentors” were introduced in early 2014 to offer students one-on-one coaching to help them build a bright future. The New World Springboard Parent Club was established in mid-2014 to offer members assistance and exchanges.
