New World International Triathlon 2014 Overseas Olympians and Local Athletes Prepare for the Race at Victoria Harbour and Tsim Sha Tsui East

 Title-sponsored by New World Group and organised by AQUAWIZ, New World International Triathlon will be held in Tsim Sha Tsui East for the second time on 30 November 2014 (Sunday). The Race will gather about 400 international and local athletes to compete for top titles at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade. The route design has been modified. Some contestants of the Elite category also shared preparation tips during an on-site media briefing before the event.

The Organiser enhanced the route, including the start, transition zone and finish, to produce a more compact race zone and allow spectators to cheer for the racers along the route. TheTriathlon will kick off with a 1.2-km swim of the Elite and Turbo Triathlon categories, then a 32.27-km cycling race along Princess Margaret Road Link, Hung Hom Bypass and Salisbury Road, and followed by a 7.58-km run along the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade. Flash and Aquathlon contestants will compete in shorter distances, while teams of three in Relay Triathlon will swim, bike and run on the same route as the Elite and Turbo categories. To promote triathlon among children, a a cycling race has been added to turn the Aquathlon into the Super Star Triathlon for children aged 8 to 12.

World-class triathletes and elite local athletes will compete in the top-tier triathlon along the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade. Elite racers were invited to visit the route prior to the event, including Tony Dodds from New Zealand, Yuliya Yelistratova and Daniil Sapunov from Ukraine and Vladimir Turbaevskiy and Alexandra Razarenova from Russia. They shared preparation tips and were thrilled to compete alongside local athletes in the event set against Hong Kong’s amazing skyline.

Genevieve Pong, event organiser of New World International Triathlon, said, “It is our pleasure to have New World International Triathlon in Tsim Sha Tsui for the second time, with great support and cooperation from the title sponsor New World Group, various Hong Kong Government departments and  other parties involved. Like last year, safety is the top priority. All athletes must have passed the selection races or present the required proofs of race experience to be eligible for the race. We have drawn a number of world-class athletes, including three-time Olympian Daniil Sapunov and Incheon Asian Game champion Yuichi Hosoda.”

New World International Triathlon is an ultimate challenge that combines swimming, cycling and running. This year, it will have Elite, Triathlon, Aquathlon and Relay races. The six categories are Elite, Turbo, Flash, Super Star, Open and Relay. The event will commence at 6:45am on 30 November 2014 (Sunday). Spectators are welcome to watch the exciting races and cheer on the athletes along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront.
