Title-sponsored by New World Group and organised by AQUAWIZ, the New World International Triathlon 2014 will be held in Tsim Sha Tsui East for the second time on 30 November 2014 (Sunday). The deadline for entries to the final qualifying race of this world-class event is 15 August 2014 (Friday).
The New World International Triathlon, an ultimate challenge combining swimming, cycling and running, saw over 300 international and local participants including Olympians, last year. To ensure safety, local athletes are required to take part in one of the qualifying races and submit previous triathlon results completed between 1 December 2013 and 30 September 2014 as proof of qualification. Athletes who participated in last year’s New World International Triathlon will be given priority to enrol. In light of enthusiastic response, this year’s enrolment quota has been increased to 400.
Qualified athletes will get the chance to swim 1.2 km in Victoria Harbour, cycle 32 km on Salisbury Road, and run 7.6 km along the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade, finishing at Avenue of Stars. Flash and Super Star triathletes and participants in aquathlons will race in shorter distances. This year, the event will again feature a charity relay race where athletes in teams of three taking on the swimming, cycling and running challenges.
The Qualifying Race will be held on 24 August 2014 with the starting point at Pak Shek Kok Pier. Categories for both Aquathlon and Open Water Series are as below:
Turbo: Run 3 km - Swim 1,200 m - Run 4.5 km (Aged 16+)
Flash: Run 1.5 km - Swim 600 m - Run 3 km (Aged 13+)
Super Star: Run 1.5 km - Swim 300 m - Run 1.5 km (Aged 8-12)
