New World Basketball League's Inter-district Basketball Competition Showcases Young Students' Unflappable Sportsmanship

On 27 April 2013 New World Development Company Limited's ("New World Development," "the Group;" Stock Code: 17.HK) New World Basketball League, a sustainable community programme under New World Springboard, held the spectacular inter-district basketball competition for around 100 students, which wrapped up the first phase of New World Basketball League. Participation by Gary Chen, Executive Director and Joint General Manager of the Group, who also played basketball with the students on the court, added colours to the competition.

Around 100 students from Tin Shui Wai, Kwai Tsing, Tung Chung, Kwun Tong, and Sham Shui Po districts and coaches gathered at Kowloon Bay Sports Centre. The competition featured the male and female categories, with elite students representing each district at the competition. The students put to practice the basketball skills they have acquired during the past four months of professional training and gave the competition their best shot, aptly demonstrating their team spirit. Students who didn't play basketball formed cheerleading squads to cheer for their teammates.

Gary Chen, Executive Director and Joint General Manager of the Group was pleased to see the students' determination to surmount obstacles andtheir unflappable sportsmanship which is what New World Springboard aspires to achieve. He also made his entrance into the court and led members of the Group's basketball team and mentors ofNew World Springboard in competitive games with the students.

Students of New World Basketball League have been undergoing professional basketball training twice a week since January 2013. Through months of hard work, many students have since evolved from knowing nothing about basketball to acquiring techniques such as dribbling and shooting. Students with potential and passion for basketball will enter the second phase of the programme this July, which will continue to provide them with free and long-term professional training.

New World Springboard aims at encouraging under-resourced youths and improving their social mobility in the long run. The programme provides more than five years of free professional swimming or basketball training to under-resourced youths and also includes the mentorship programme in which staff members from the Group act as students' mentors, helping them develop a positive outlook on life.
