K11 Presents People Series this June

Eco-stume Making Project Exhibition and Workshop & Re-run of the reputed "The Unbegotten 2" with groundbreaking public audition to promote green life and recycled art
 

While New World Group launches the first "New World Green Week", K11 shows full support by co-presenting a series of youth eco-programmes with various environmental and youth organizations in June and July. Activity highlights include "People Power in a New World Series 2010 - Eco-stume Making Project Exhibition" to demonstrate the youth's creativity through recycled artworks, the transformation of "Spice Up, Africa!" themed mall decoration into "Home Sweet Home" recycled home furniture exhibition, as well as "Eco-trashion Workshop" and the "World Cup Workshop", with the objectives to promote eco-awareness and present art in green aspects.

Meanwhile, "Unbegotten", the contemporary dance performance that attracted lavish praise from the public when it debuted in early May, will return to K11 Stage of the Arts with new elements this June. The "Unbegotten 2" will feature the amazing dance arranged and performed by renowned choreographer Andy Wong and his Dancing Angels, and a groundbreaking open audition at K11 to invite public participation in the show.

"People Power in a New World Series 2010 - Eco-stume Making Project Exhibition" and "Eco-Trashion Workshop" 
"People Power in a New World Series 2010 - Eco-stume Making Project Exhibition", co-presented by K11, New World Development Company Limited, China Young Leader Foundation, "Road to Green - Striving for a Young New World" Social Enterprise and Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, will be staged at K11 from June 5 to July 11, where the 18 in-mall showcases and K11 Stage of the Arts will display a series of trendy and chic artworks made by the talented local youngsters with use of recycling second-hand clothing.

Upon spending of HK$100 on every Saturday and Sunday in June, K11 visitors will be entitled to "Eco-Trashion Workshop" or "World Cup Workshop". In the "Eco-Trashion Workshop", visitors can learn how to use recycled clothes with old buttons and zippers to create their own fashionable accessories, such as bags, hair bands, badges and bracelets. For "World Cup Workshop", the instructor will demonstrate how to create the Jules Rimet Trophy, the FIFA World Cup Trophy and the Golden Boot with use of ecological materials.


Home Sweet Home - Innovative transformation of animal sculptures into chic home furniture 
In response to June's eco theme, K11 has specially invited Hong Kong designer Kenny Li to transform the "Spice Up, Africa!" themed animal sculptures currently displayed at different corners of the mall into new sets of innovative home furniture, such as "Wildebees Sofa", "Leopard Table" and "White Pelican Candle Stand". All these stylish furniture will be on display from June 21 to July 11 at K11 Piazza.

Re-run! Unbegotten 2 - Body Painting cum Fashion cum Dance Performance highlighted by new elements and public audition 
Unbegotten, the contemporary dance performance receiving raving response for its debut early May will re-run at K11 Stage of the Arts this June with a groundbreaking open audition for dancers. The audition will be held on June 12 at K11 Piazza to recruit creative, self-motivated and confident dancer coming with modern dance and theatre experience to join the talented production team.

The brand new re-run will be on Stage of the Arts, K11 B2 on June 26-27 and July 3-4. Also, Stage of the Arts, the mysterious blackbox at L2 of K11 will allow public visit from June 21 to July 18, granting visitors a close encounter of "The Unbegotten" performance space and the spectacular costumes and backstage glamour.

Other highlights of K11 "People Series" 
K11's art momentum will be sustained by a wide variety of art performances, including "My Very First Time", a 30-minute solo performance by Derek Wong, ex-fulltime actor of Hong Kong Repertory Theatre; "Singles in Love", a 30-minute live performance of band Voyage and Clifton by Green Spot Events & Productions; Encounter with "Playback Theatre"; violin performance by Kurt Chan, teaching assistant to the famed violinist Takako Nishizaki and Recycle Recreate Exhibition, filling every corner of K11 with inspirational and pleasant art experience.

Display a series of trendy and chic artworks made by the
talented local youngsters with use of recycling
second-hand clothing.
Inspired by the beauty of natural scenery, a number of
students under the guidance of the featured artists have
recreated nature through tailoring, patching and sewing
urban items, such as jeans and T-shirts. These
"soft sculptures", representing brilliant blending of natural
and urban elements, will be displayed at G/F & L3 of K11
mall to reflect the intimate relationship between human
and nature in an edgy and fashionable style.
Meanwhile, L1 & L2 of the mall will be energized by a
mid-air, 3-dimensional flower created with old clothing
and with design inspiration from 10 masterpieces in Art
history including Van Gogh sunflower and Andy Warhol
silk printed gerbera.
Stage of the Arts at L2 will showcase students' spectacular
recycled glamorous fashion designs under the theme
of "Water" from June 5 to June 20.

Violin Performance
A native of Hong Kong, Kurt Chan studied violin at
the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Welsh
College of Music and Drama in the United Kingdom.
As a freelance Violinist and Violist, he has performed
across the UK and Hong Kong, including City
Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and Dartington
Festival Orchestra, working with leading artists
such as Sir Charles Mackerras, Vladimir Ashkenazy,
Paul Daniels. He is now working as teaching
assistant to the famed violinist Takako Nishizaki.
