K11 Firstly Participates in the Hong Kong International Art Fair (ARTHK 11)

Presents Hong Kong Local Artiststo the World - Florian MA, Gavin AU and Samantha WONG 
 

The Hong Kong International Art Fair will be held on 26 - 29 May 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Pioneering the blend of three essential elements of Art · People · Nature, K11 is showcasing artworks by Star of K11 - Florian MA Ho Yin and the two K11 Artist Bloggers Gavin AU and Samantha WONG at ARTHK 11(K11 booth no. X15). Together with over 260 galleries and museums from 38 countries worldwide,their talent is going to be presented to art lovers and galleries around the globe.

Since the opening in 2009, K11 has always been devoted in fostering links with the arts and the mass for young, contemporary and experimental local young artists in all multi art forms, and incorporating market forces of art dealing and marketing exposure to promote local creative talents on an international ground.

Florian MA, the selected local young contemporary artist to be nourished under the unique Star of K11 programme 2010, has just been chosen by Perspective Magazine as one of the Design Stars of Tomorrow in their annual 40 Under 40 programme 2011. In 2009, Florian's video work "Les Demoiselles de Avignon" was selected in Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards 2009 and he was awarded LVMH Young Creative Artists Awards 2009. K11 fully supported and staged Florian's Solo ‘gene' Conceptual Mulitmedia Art Exhibition in late 2010.

K11 Artist Bloggers Gavin AU and Samantha WONG are the highlighted local artists by K11. Photographer Gavin AU was awarded the Artist-In-Residency by the Hong Kong Open Printshop and received the honorable mention in IPA international photography awards in 2010. In the "Collect Stamps" series, Gavin tries to tell more about the peeping behavior originated from basic human's desire and curiosity. Multimedia artist Samantha WONG focus on paintings, videos and mixed media installations, mostly related to psychological state of children and childhood experiences, with imaginations of the stories and influences of human beings in their early age.

Star of K11 - Florian MA Ho Yin

Florian MA Ho Yin was born in Hong Kong, China in 1982. He attained his BA (Fine Arts) degree and master degree (Fine Arts) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2006 and 2009.

MA has been creating designs, paintings, installations, photography, videos and those have been exhibited in Hong Kong, Taiwan, United States and Paris.Recently his works were exhibited in "Hommage a Picasso" and "Bounce" in Paris.He participated in the solo exhibition "Opscape" at Para/Site in 2005 and group exhibition "Away" exhibition at 1a Space in 2006 and "Dear Yau Ma Tei" at Shanghai Street Artspace in 2008.

He has joined an artist residency program and exhibited in Portland and also United States in 2008. His video work "Les Demoiselles de Avignon" was selected in Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards 2009 and he was awarded LVMH Young Creative Artists Awards 2009.

In MA's work, he turns urban sceneries into conceptual visual elements and recreates (fabricates) new optical images to represent time, space and color. Out of his interest in the semiotic approach on manipulation of images, Florian engages with various mechanisms of image building and duplication, in order to examine different possible interpretative metaphor among the methods to be his own abstract language.

K11 Artist Blogger - Gavin AU Ka Yiu

Gavin AU Ka Yiu is a Hong Kong-based artist. He graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2006 and received the Gold Winner in the Asia Photo Awards 07 presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers Ltd.His works have been chosen as the cover of the Chinese photography magazine "Chinese Photography", entered Philippe Charriol Foundation Art Competition 2006 and Serbin International Photography Contest 2006 respectively. In 2010, he was awarded the Artist - In - Residency by the Hong Kong Open Printshop and received the honorable mention in IPA international photography awards.His works were collected by The Hong Kong Heritage Museum and different private collectors.In recent years, his works have been presented in various local and international exhibitions and events.

Gavin has a belief: "What I learnt about photography was delivered by the former people, footprints of the past, so I have to travel through into the photographic history and experience the process by myself." Photography is an adventure to explore the possibility and transformation in his own way.

K11 Artist Blogger - Samantha WONG May Po

Born in Hong Kong, China. Samantha WONG graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT) in 2009 with Bachelor in Arts (Fine Art) Currently also work as an independent art exhibition curator.

Use of vibrant colours, missing, broken, translucent and fading of the bodies parts of the figures depicted, Samantha's artworks are in quirky style.Her works include sequences of paintings, videos and mixed media installations, mostly related to psychological state of children and childhood experiences, with imaginations of the stories and influences of human beings in their early age.
