HKCEC expansion opens assuring continued exhibition growth

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has completed its HK$1.4 billion (US$180 million) expansion, bringing the centre's exhibition space to 83,000 sq m (893,080 sq ft) and total rentable space for events and activities to over 92,000 sq m (989,920 sq ft).

In the next 12 months after the completion of HKCEC Expansion, 30 existing exhibitions will occupy a portion or all of the newly expanded space, out of which 10 will utilise all exhibition hall space within the HKCEC including the expansion, e.g., Electronics Fair in the autumn, September Jewellery Fair and Mega Show Part I.

HKCEC Managing Director, Cliff Wallace, stated, "This expansion will enhance the Centre significantly. The additional space is in great demand by our current clients. The expansion will also improve the logistics and functionality throughout the overall venue and insure that Hong Kong's status as Asia's trade fair capital will remain intact as the industry grows."

"With the largest exhibition space in Hong Kong and Macau, and being located in the centre of Hong Kong, I am confident that the HKCEC will continue to serve as one of the most prestigious and successful exhibition venues within Asia," he added.

Apart from the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), which will be the first exhibition to use the expanded space (13-16 April), the expansion will also benefit an array of prominent exhibitions and consumer shows that follow, including the Hong Kong Houseware Fair (20-23 April), Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair (27-30 April), HOFEX 2009 - The 13th Asian International Exhibition of Food & Drink, Hotel, Restaurant, Foodservice Equipment, Supplies & Services (6-9 May), the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair 2009 (18-21 June), and Hong Kong Book Fair 2009 (22-28 July).
