Groundbreaking of New Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital

Representatives from Parkway Pantai Limited ("Parkway Pantai"), NWS Holdings Limited ("NWS Holdings"; Stock Code: 659.HK) and The University of Hong Kong ("HKU") officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital on 10 January (Friday). The Hospital, scheduled for operation in early 2017, will provide high quality and affordable clinical services to the Hong Kong community.

The project was first announced in March last year when GHK Hospital Limited ("GHK") successfully won the bid to design and construct a private hospital at Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong. The new 500-bed hospital will provide high quality clinical services with a transparent fee structure that are accessible and affordable to the Hong Kong community. It also aims to leverage the best clinical and management expertise to address the healthcare needs of the Hong Kong community, with a focus on the training of healthcare professionals and the advancement of clinical and research excellence.

GHK is a partnership between Parkway Pantai and NWS Holdings, the infrastructure and service flagship of the New World Group, with the participation of HKU as the clinical partner.

"Parkway Pantai is committed to the people and future of healthcare in Hong Kong," says Dato' Mohammed Azlan bin Hashim, Chairman of Parkway Pantai. "We will do our best to develop all facets of the sector from the provision of affordable healthcare to domestic patients to the training of doctors. With more than 30 years' experience in managing world-class hospitals, we see an opportunity to alleviate the pent-up demand for quality healthcare in Hong Kong, replicating the success experience in Singapore which has similar demographics."

Dr Henry Cheng, Chairman and Executive Director of New World Development Company Limited and Chairman of NWS Holdings, says, "The Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital marks a key milestone in the development of a high quality, patient-centred healthcare system in Hong Kong. We are committed to supporting the needs of Hong Kong people and contributing to the local healthcare industry. With our expertise and track record in hospital construction and services, we strive to ensure the successful construction and implementation of the Gleneagles Hospital."

Professor Roland Chin, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost of The University of Hong Kong, says, "The University of Hong Kong looks forward to training Hong Kong's future doctors, nurses, pharmacists and Chinese medicine practitioners in this new, our third, affiliate teaching hospital. The Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital will also provide an important research base for translational science and discovery. Our colleagues at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine will bring to bear their superlative experience in clinical governance thereby ensuring excellent quality care at the hospital."
