Dr Henry Cheng Appointed Honorary Trustee of Tsinghua University

New World Development Company Limited ("New World Group", "The Group"; Stock Code: 17.HK) proudly announced that Dr Henry Cheng, Chairman and Executive Director of New World Development Company Limited, was made the Honorary trustee of Tsinghua University today. Dr Chen Jining, President of Tsinghua University, officiated at the appointment ceremony together with other representatives from Tsinghua University.

Dr Henry Cheng said: "Tsinghua University is one of the world's top-notch universities and has earned a stellar reputation in fostering talent and educational development. I am pleased to receive the appointment and it is an honour to be endowed with this great opportunity to further my efforts in nurturing talent for the community with the University. . This distinct honour enables me to continue playing an active role in promoting Mainland education development and corporate social responsibility."

Dr Chen Jining said: "Dr Henry Cheng has made a substantial contribution to the strategic development of Tsinghua University. We are delighted to name Dr Cheng as the Honorary trustee. Benefiting from Dr Cheng's vast experience and valuable erudition we confidently believe Tsinghua University will continue its robust growth and will scale new heights. Dr Cheng has been committed to ongoing support or educational development. His past contributions such as the donation made last year to the Cheng Yu Tung Medical Building, the School of Medicine of Tsinghua University, will facilitate scientific research and the growth of medical talent. We were delighted to have Dr Cheng share his business insights and management experience with hundreds of students at the Tsinghua Entrepreneur Seminar earlier this year."

Over the decades, New World Group has launched a number of programmes to cultivate the knowledge base in the next generation. For instance, the Group established the "Group Management Trainee Programme" and the "New World Navigator Business Mentorship Program". The latter is a joint programme organised with the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong offering job shadowing opportunities for undergraduates with the Group's senior executives playing the role as personal mentors. The Group also collaborated with the Hong Kong Youth Association and the China Youth Leader Foundation to initiate the "New Youth New World" Summer Internship Programme, providing internships and cultural exchanges to the Mainland and Hong Kong undergraduates. The Group moreover donated seed money to establish the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation, which mobilises university students to involve themselves in sustainable bridge projects for the alleviation of rural poverty. The bridge signals a spiritual bridge of love connecting the people and further enhances the integration of the Mainland and Hong Kong.
