New World Development’s 2000 Annual Report Wins Grand Award at International Competition

New World Development Company Limited's 2000 Annual Report has received the "Best of International" Grand Award and six awards - two Gold, one Silver and three Honours - in the 2001 International ARC (Annual Report Competition) Awards - the world's largest competition honouring excellence in annual reports.

The company's 2000 Annual Report has won the "Best of International" Grand Award - the highest given to a company operating outside North America - for its overall excellence. Judging criteria included cover design, writing, interior design, financial presentation, and the expression of the company's spirit.

The Report has also earned two Gold Awards for overall presentation and photography, a Silver Award for financial data, and three Honours Awards for cover photo/design, president's letter and interior design.

Dr Henry Cheng, NWD Managing Director, said, "We are very pleased that our 2000 Annual Report has won international recognition in an annual event that is considered the 'Academy Awards of Annual Reports.' These awards are testimony to our commitment to excellence. We will continue to improve ourselves to produce more user-friendly and informative annual reports for shareholders."

The 2000 Annual Report features the company's four core divisions as major players in their respective sectors, highlights the values that have sustained it through the years, and communicates the management's vision of the future. The report's photos are of two kinds: thematic ones set on strong colour background and realistic ones depicting the business divisions in action. They are used in parallel throughout the report, to show how concepts and values are translated into business performance. The report's cover sets the tone of intellectual power and strategic momentum via a close-up shot of Newton's Cradle.

The International ARC Awards was hosted for the 15th year by New York-based MerComm, Inc. This year, over 1,500 entries in 12 major categories were submitted by some 800 different companies from 21 countries representing over 170 industries. Winners are judged on the success of their presentation of corporate information and financial data, creativity, clarity, effectiveness and communications excellence.

NWD is a blue chip conglomerate with a diversified business portfolio. Through its four core divisions in property, infrastructure, services and telecommunications & technology, NWD actively participates in a wide range of businesses and investments in the Mainland and Hong Kong.
